Tour Partner Spotlight: Jean Jacques
In today’s partner spotlight, we’ll take a look at a great way to experience France in Carytown: Jean Jacques Bakery!
Jean Jacques opened in the Cary Court Park & Shop Center in 1983, and has been there ever since, making it the oldest among all businesses presently in the shopping center. Current owners Josef and Emma Bindas have been involved since the beginning, and can be found in the bakery just about every morning. Jean Jacques was originally exclusively French, but over time, Josef (Belgian) and Emma (Italian) let their roots influence the bakery, and now it’s best described as a slice of Europe in Carytown. Whether you stop in for something savory or something sweet, you’re likely to leave wanting to try everything else in the case.
River City Food Tours Sample Item
When you visit Jean Jacques during the Carytown Sweets Tour, you’ll have the opportunity to sample an allumette – a flaky pastry filled with cream, custard, and strawberries, and dusted with almond slices and powdered sugar on top!
Something Else To Try
When visiting Jean Jacques on your own, we recommend any of the pastries, though our favorites are the french macaroons or the chocolate croissant. The bakery also has a selection of warm savory croissants, which are perfect for lunch!
Jean Jacques Bakery is located in the Cary Court Park & Shop Center in Carytown, at 3138 W. Cary St. There is on-street parking and a parking lot nearby.
